Cypress to Showcase MicroCotton® Green Earth™ Towels and Sheets at BITAC Purchasing & Design West 2008 Conference

Unique new line of bath towels and sheets lead the way in green hospitality's new eco-economy, offering an ideal combination of luxury, efficiency and sustainability

MicroCotton Green Earth towels are specifically engineered to maximize absorbency, durability and eco-conservation. They are woven from super-fine, Extra-Long Staple (ELS) cotton, a superior variety of cotton recognized for its sustainability and durability, as well as its softness. Green Earth towels are 160% bulkier than traditional combed cotton towels of the same weight, with significantly less mass than traditional combed towels. Due to the higher ratio of surface area to towel weight, they absorb more water, and due to their lower mass, they cost significantly less to launder. These features result in a savings up to 30% in water consumption, less detergent use and 10-20% less drying time, reducing hotel operational costs and environmental impact.

MicroCotton Green Earth sheets, available in 300, 350, 400 sateen and 600 sateen thread counts, are the most eco-friendly sheets available. At least 14% lighter (in kilograms) than standard sheets, hoteliers will save a minimum of $65.00 per room annually during the laundering process. The result is achieved by saving a minimum of 1,260 gallons per year, a minimum of 272-kilowatt hours per year, a minimum of 388 pounds of CO2 per year and a minimum of 4.6 kilograms of detergent per year. The savings per room double as the thread counts increase.

While many hotels have established linen reuse programs as a best practice, these programs are sometimes difficult to communicate to guests and housekeepers. Recent studies show that while 83% of hotels have a linen reuse program in place, guest participation is mediocre at best.

Green Earth towels and sheets are produced in a state-of-the-art, agri-waste and wind powered, zero- discharge facility that produces no emission of effluents into the local water tables. The process also incorporates Control Union-certified, sustainable, eco-friendly dyes and chemicals to reduce impact on the environment, and are shipped in 100% natural and bio-degradable / recyclable packaging.
